ABOUT MATTHEW SCHMITT
Matt brings his passions for water, risk, and economics together at Assurant as Director of Underwriting for the Private Flood market. Equipped with a degree in Hydrology and Water Policy from University of California, Santa Barbara, he started his career as a Catastrophe Analyst at Aon where he helped build one of the industries first inland flood models. After learning about the large protection gap that exists in the U.S, he decided to pivot towards Underwriting to put his technical modeling expertise into practice. Matt is spurred by Assurant’s purpose of Protecting what people value most and hopes his current work will contribute to further closing the protection gap and helping the private and NFIP markets work together more harmoniously.
