THE POISE PROJECT: alexander technique for the 21st centuryOur Mission is to help the general public maintain poise, dignity, and personal growth throughout all stages and challenges of life through the principles of Alexander technique (AT).Our Mission is realized through promotion of the profession, creation of programs adapted for specific populations and industries, and support of cutting edge research in the field. We use a team approach that unites members of the general public who have benefited from AT with industry experts and AT professionals for coordinated, collaborative advocacy.We are committed to removing barriers and making Alexander technique training available across broad socioeconomic groups and to those with chronic conditions.Alexander technique is well-established among performing artists as a cognitive embodiment training. Using an integrated psychomotor approach, AT specialists teach ways of thinking that combine interoception, exteroception, proprioception, and goal awareness to enhance the performance of everyday activities while reducing anxiety and improving overall confidence. Adaptive Alexander-based programs teach clients to actively choose and use functional patterns that promote optimal postural tone and support their ability to become skilled and holistically engaged partners in their own preventative and rehabilitative care.
