Work with professors to plan and market cultural events, for example a Polish Film Festival and cultural outings in the Los Angeles metro area- Plan the semesterly Russian Tea to celebrate the release of Vestnik, our biannual Russian and Eastern European journal. I estimate that this semester\'s Russian tea, which included cookie decorating and karaoke, was attended by 75% of students in the department.

ABOUT MIRIAM AKHMETSHIN
I am a senior at Scripps College on the pre-law track interested in reproductive justice and public interest law. I have demonstrated experience in both direct service and advocacy in the fields of sexual violence and maternal health. I strive to address systemic barriers to wellness and work towards enhanced legal protections. My recent senior thesis in economics,\"Improving Maternal Health: Investigating the Early Impacts of Medicaid Coverage of Doulas in Oregon\" used difference-in-difference regression analysis to try to estimate treatment effects. I also gleaned valuable insight into the correlation between certain demographic characteristics and outcomes such as maternal morbidity, cesarean sections, inductions, and VBACs. I am excited to continue learning about and researching public health interventions through a quantitative lens in order to build a strong foundation for future policy work. As a student-doula, I am passionate about reducing maternal health disparities through the lens of radical inclusion and cultural humility. I hope to volunteer my services to those otherwise unable to access doula care. I have completed my training as a Full Spectrum Doula, Postpartum Doula, and Full Spectrum Lactation Educator with BADT, and I am taking the steps to certify.
