ABOUT MICK ELLIOTT

I am Mick Elliott (Okimâwâtik), a two-spirited citizen of Okanese First Nation with mixed ancestral roots to Belgium, Germany, and Scotland. I live, study, and play in Mohkíntis (Calgary) and on xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam Indian Reserve) on the shared unceded territories of the Skwxwú7mesh and Səl̓ílwətaɬ Nations.As the inaugural Indigenous business PhD candidate at the University of Calgary, my research examines how Indigenous peoples and worldviews can co-exist with dominant Eurocentric institutions to invite innovation and transformation. This work is grounded in over 25 years in the natural resource development sectors, where I\'ve held director-level roles and engaged nationally with Indigenous / non-Indigenous communities and governments. I\'ve successfully bridged relationships between these industries and Indigenous communities across upstream, downstream, and midstream brownfield and greenfield projects—work that continues to inform my scholarship.I investigate pathways for institutional change that prioritize Indigenous relationships and support Indigenous resurgence in business scholarship and practice. My work also extends to exploring how AI informed by Indigenous worldviews and Knowledge systems might address socioeconomic inequities and advance economic equity for marginalized populations.I collaborate with Indigenous communities on governance, regulatory, and entrepreneurial initiatives and support organizations on their journeys to support my peoples. I am humbled by my growing traditional family who walk with me in ceremony, research and in love/spirit. I can often be found hiking or walking the mountain / forest trails my standard poodles and husbands.
