About Michael Rockwell
I have been managing the global carbon cycle and carbon supply chains for over a decade at every level and believe in the power of business to drive sustainable impact. My roadmap:1) Ecology: 4 years of international wildlife conservation research for my undergrad with field research in Queensland, Australia, and the Greek Aegean Islands. I learned the value of thorough research and systems thinking while honing my Excel analytics skills with lizard morphology data.2) Conservation Project Management: 4 years managing dynamic environmental restoration projects and investing in youth leadership development through conservation. I learned the value of managing diverse teams and stakeholders at various levels to drive tangible results. I also served on a nonprofit board for 1 year, gaining exposure to the business model behind the mission.3) Sustainable entrepreneurship: I accidentally started a coffee company during the pandemic, stumbling my way through business development, strategy, and operations for a sustainable, community-oriented coffee company. I learned how to develop supply chains, supplier relationships, and production systems from scratch and broke even after 1 year.4) Corporate sustainability: In 2021, I helped my non-profit find its first Green Team and complete its first GHG Report and Decarbonization plan, Identifying an opportunity to save $4.4 million over 3 years through fleet decarbonization. I discovered the business case for sustainability and have been reinforcing it ever since.5) MBA - Corporate Sustainability: In 2022 I went back to school to study international business and corporate sustainability. Here I have led various ESG consulting projects, sustainability research projects, and club leadership positions. I had a formative internship with the Delta Airlines Supply Chain Sustainability Team where I worked on their first RFP for carbon accounting software, managed EcoVadis supplier development, and my net zero supplier engagement strategy was implemented organization-wide (covering $8 billion+ of company spend). 6) Corporate Sustainability Career: I am excited to enter the workforce this May 2024 to apply my new knowledge and novel experiences to drive sustainable impact in the corporate sustainability space.I want to create a world where we can study the incredible wildlife around us without having to conserve it. To do that, I am committed to collaborating with my invisible teammates around the world to use the power of business to drive sustainable impact.
