About Mauricio Ciudad-Real
Before officially joining Kinemetrics in 1996, I started my professional career as seismic network operator at the Geological Survey of El Salvador, and even though I was in charge of the entire network operations, due to my background, I was mainly focused on strong motion and structural monitoring. This insight provides me with the opportunity to contribute to the evolution of the system solutions from an enduser’s point of view, ensuring that data is easily understood so clients can make informed decisions. Throughout the years, I have been involved with several high-profile structural monitoring projects including the Bill Emerson Memorial Bridge in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, the Naval Hospital Bremerton in Washington, and the Caltrans District 4 Headquarters in Oakland, California. Internationally, I have overseen projects such as the Assessment of Seismic Hazard and Risk in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, which included SHM systems for seven critical and unique buildings.In the energy sector, I have been involved in seismic monitoring system projects such as the Wheatstone LNG Project in Western Australia, as well as multiple nuclear plants around the world.In recent years, my efforts and work experience has been focused in delivering end-to-end solutions for earthquakes business/operations continuity that include: leading-edge technology, high-end instruments, performance-based engineering services, emergency response planning, and novel technology-based communication channels. Being the first of this kind currently running in Dubai at the Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building.
