About Lee Rothleutner
I lead the Corporate Quality team for The Timken Company. I received my B.S.(2009), M.S.(2012), and Ph.D.(2016) in Metallurgical & Materials Engineering from the Colorado School of Mines. My primary research interests are ferrous alloy design, thermal treatment process design, retained austenite stability, ultrahigh-strength steels, and sustainable metallurgical process design. Previously, I led Timken’s Materials R&D team which included the corporate Material Science technology platform which includes over 25 active projects ranging in topic from heat treatment process development and steel alloy design to coatings development and additive manufacturing. I also oversaw the Materials Characterization and Damage Analysis groups which process a combined total of approx. 1100 support requests a year utilizing their sq.ft. laboratory in North Canton, Ohio. I was awarded the Surface Combustion / Heat Treating Society Emerging Leader Award in 2017, selected into Heat Treat Today’s 40 under 40 class of 2018, as well as serve on various ASM Heat Treating Society committees including presently serving as the VP of the Heat-Treating Society. I am a registered Professional Engineer with the state of Ohio and a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard.
