   I am currently leading a multi-partner, multi-year project to design, develop and deliver a virtual reality solution that will be used to train police officers across the country on de-escalation techniques in order to reduce the use of force on citizens. This solution will use VR to immerse officers in a variety of realistic scenarios, at multiple locations (schools, hospitals, urban/residential environments) within a vast virtual world, where they will have the opportunity to engage with a range of non-player characters who are capable of authentic actions and spontaneous dialog. Officers will have the advantage of safely exploring a multitude of unfamiliar situations, to practice building rapport and trust with the public. The ultimate goal is for these officers to hone their skills, review their performance with instructors, and then practice again, so that they become more likely in real life to de-escalate situations rather than respond with force. Note: this project has been recently expanded to include law enforcement training for protests and riots!
