ABOUT LAURIE WHITESELL

Having grown up near the coast, marine and coastal-related issues are near and dear to my heart. Nevertheless, I attended universities in the Midwest of the United States but returned after undergraduate work to the coast between undergraduate and graduate studies. Where an internship brought me the fantastic experience of collecting shallow marine seismic. Upon completion of my graduate work in the Midwest, I again found myself on the coast conducting shallow-marine geophysical data. I then moved to characterize and work to remediate groundwater contamination. Once again, I found myself in the Midwest when in 2012, I joined SEG as the Near Surface Geophysics Program Manager. Then after COVID remote work was permitted and this allowed me to work remotely from the coast. This pattern of moving from the coast to the Midwest and back again seems a constant one in my career progression.Over the years additional responsibilities ebbed and flowed based on market demands and organizational needs. Planning and optimizing programs and projects are a passion whether geophysical surveys, groundwater remediation, or program development at a not-for-profit. I enjoy helping others achieve their goals and helping to bring joint visions on projects to successful conclusions. If anyone wants something done, they know they can count on me.When I am not working, I am researching and collecting rocks and minerals, volunteering, gardening, developing photography skills, and traveling. International travel is such a blessing. It is a joy to learn about various cultures and explore histories that influence my appreciation for those who are not like me.
