ABOUT LAURA GIOCOMO RIZZO

As the Colorado government affairs lead for Intermountain Health, I work with partners and legislators around the state to advocate for smart health policy that meets the needs of our patients and caregivers. Having worked in policy nearly my entire career, I’m passionate about solving problems, finding common ground, and building lasting relationships. I previously oversaw the scholarship department as well as communications and marketing for the Daniels Fund, one of the Rocky Mountain region’s largest private foundations. While there, I oversaw $18 million in scholarship giving via two scholarship programs and a team that provides support and programming for students. I previously served as the senior vice president of external affairs at the Denver Metro Chamber, where I managed internal and external communications, marketing, public relations, investor events, public affairs and government relations for the Chamber. I represented a range of private sector companies to advance business-friendly policy in the state of Colorado. Over the past 10 years I have worked in communications, marketing and public policy for then-Mayor John Hickenlooper, the Colorado Department of Higher Education, Centura Health and SE2, a Denver-based communications consulting firm specializing in public issues. Having worked as a communications assistant and the director of scheduling for then-Mayor Hickenlooper and in various roles for political campaigns across Colorado, I have a deep understanding of public policy and its impact on businesses and constituents in our state. I previously served on the board of trustees for Mile High Early Learning and was a member of the community advisory board of Presbyterian St. Luke’s Hospital, where I served as chair. In 2010, I was co-chair of Gov. John Hickenlooper’s campaign health care committee. Following his successful election, I served on the Health Care Policy and Financing transition team for his first administration.
