ABOUT LANA ALAGHA
Dr. Lana Alagha is currently the Robert H. Quenon Professor and the Associate Chair for Research (ACR) in the Department of Mining & Explosives Engineering at Missouri S&T. Dr. Alagha joined the mining engineering program at Missouri S&T in Fall 2012 as the first full-time female faculty in the department since its inception in 1870. She holds a Ph.D. degree in Materials Chemistry and Nanotechnology from the University of Texas at Dallas. She had over three years postdoctoral experience in oil sands processing and water management at the department of Chemical and Material Engineering, University of Alberta, Canada. Dr. Alagha has extensive experience in minerals chemistry, mineral processing, critical and strategic minerals, extractive metallurgy, colloid science, synthetic chemistry, and polymer design technology. Dr. Alagha had diverse teaching appointments in US and Canada. In her current role, she teaches both graduate and undergraduate mineral processing courses with some of the courses co-listed with other engineering departments at Missouri S&T. Dr. Alagha is a founding member of the Missouri S&T University Research Center for Critical Minerals Research and Engineering (formerly Thomas O’Keefe Institute for Sustainable Supply of Strategic Minerals). She is a member of organization committees of the Resilient Supply of Critical Minerals Annual Workshop Series (2020-date) sponsored by NSF. She is a member of the executive steering committee of the Critical Minerals and Materials for Advanced Energy Tech Hub, which is a designated tech hub by the US Economic Development Administration (EDA) and the co-lead for the Test Bed Facility component project. Dr. Alagha is a member of the Society of Mining, Metallurgy and Exploration (SME) and the American Chemical Society (ACS).
