ABOUT LACHLAN VAN ROSMALEN

The American dream bleeds red white and blue into my Australian heart. Being an immigrant from a hardworking middle class family taught me the endless possibilities and potential that comes with both hard and smart work. As a student in high school, I balanced two part-time jobs. I was a personal tutor and quarterback coach for two years. I taught eleven different students and trained 8 others to be professionals and masters of their craft. I am pursuing a degree in finance at the University of Utah where I am currently a freshman. Another couple of my achievements would be that I graduated high school with a 4.0 and honors in the spring of 2022. The second achievement would be that I am one of 250 other students in the Eccles Domestic business scholars program. I am looking to get into investment banking or wealth management. I hope to be able to prove my ability to be an asset as an intern or an employee for a firm in the financial industry. I have known since my freshman year of high school that I wanted to work in the financial industry and since meeting my personal mentor who is a private equity team manager at Morgan Stanley, I have known Asset management was for me. I have spent the past five years interviewing and shadowing members of my network and members of their networks to gather information and experience in the industry. While I may only be studying finance for four years the university of Utah, I will in fact have nine years of experience and knowledge of the industry. For me, achieving the greatest possible outcome is what keeps me in the office. I want to ensure that when I work, I am offering the best possible work for both my employer and client. I played three years of varsity football as a quarterback in high school and was elected as a captain for two of those years so I understand that above all else, leadership and sacrifice for the team comes first. Education is important but it could never compare to the fast paced learning of hands-on work experience. I learned quickly over the summers when I would do shadow days with my mentor that being intelligent and well educated come in handy only when you can handle the pressure properly. I could go into detail how playing quarterback at one of the best high school football teams in the country played a huge role in my ability to thrive in high pressure situations but the short story is I actually enjoy being the person who others can look to and rely on when the chaos begins. This ability to be calm and thrive in pressure is just another reason why I think I would be an asset for you.
