About Kerlin Sabogal

Kerlin Sabogal is a Colombian author, journalist, and the CEO of The Courage to Bee, Inc, a nonprofit dedicated to providing educational opportunities for at-risk youth locally and in underserved communities worldwide. She holds a Master’s in Bilingual Education from Houston Baptist University and has spent over a decade in public education, serving as a teacher, department leader, and principal before transitioning into nonprofit leadership.As an international author, she co-authored The Girls Who Refused to Quit (2020), sharing her journey of resilience and advocacy. Her dedication to education has earned her numerous accolades, including induction into Kappa Delta Pi, the International Honor Society in Education, and the International Honor Society of Bilingual Education. She was also named Bilingual Teacher of the Year at Shotwell Middle International School in 2016.Her impact extends beyond education into community empowerment. In 2022, she was recognized as a Woman of Distinction by the Texas Association of Mexican American Chambers of Commerce (TAMACC), highlighting her as one of 12 remarkable Hispanic women shaping Texas’ economic, political, and social landscape. In 2023, she was named Most Influential International Woman by LCA Houston and received the Community Service Award from Dreams Unleashed She Networks. Most recently, in 2024, she won the Nonprofit Leadership in Developing Programs & Breaking the Digital Divide Award by Comcast, recognizing her efforts in bridging the technology gap for underserved youth.Her commitment to bilingual education and mentorship was further acknowledged in 2019, when Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner recognized her as one of the city’s most influential bilingual Latina bloggers and mentors. She also received the Red Apple Bilingual Education Award from Lone Star College in 2013 and, early in her career, was awarded the SSIM Foundation Scholarship for her studies in journalism.Beyond her work with The Courage to Bee, Inc, Ms. Sabogal has been featured in various international and local publications, including River Oaks Style Magazine, where she was highlighted as one of four Wonder Women changing the world. She also serves as a board member and volunteer for organizations dedicated to advancing youth and women’s education.Through her leadership, advocacy, and storytelling, Kerlin Sabogal continues to empower communities worldwide, using education as a bridge to opportunity and a catalyst for change.
