ABOUT KAREN RUSSELL-SURTEES
I left the Royal Navy after 18 yrs of service as a medic in June 2010. Due to injury, working offshore or in the paramedic industry wasn\'t an option, therefore i went from fixing people to fixing computers. I re-skilled with assistance of the Naval Resettlement service and JBC Computing, and got qualifications in maintenance and desktop services. I was then offered a job with FCO Services in Milton Keynes on their 1st line service desk. I thoroughly enjoyed the role and was quickly able to improve my skills and knowledge base. I was given the opportunity several months after joining to join their out of hours shift. Working with a first class team I learnt network monitoring and eventually was made Shift Leader. After 18 Months I felt I needed a new challenge and a new opportunity arose with Aylesbury Vale District Council, in a Project Capacity. This role was essentially Project Management, after running a few low level projects I wanted to develop further and using the last of my military educational credits I gained a Prince 2 Foundation and Practitioner Qualification. I then went into the commercial sector and worked For Annodata/Kyocera and Civica as a technical Project Manager. I now work as a Programme Manager for Cambridgeshire county Council. I enjoy learning new skills I was also a Staff Rep and Coach for AVDC involved in assisting staff with issues and personal development. I have lots of interests but Digital Photography, Reading, Online Gaming and walking my dogs take up most of my time outside of work. My only claim to fame is that a long time ago while serving on HMS Northumberland a friend in the USA and I managed to get two novels published.
