WORK HISTORY
Executive Vice President (East and South Europe) @Bechtle
My role as EVP of East and Southern and markets is to contribute to the overall leadership of the business as a member of the SLT for Bechtle eCom division operating across 14 European countries and to translate group strategy into deliverable goals for my region. Working with the in-country Managing Directors to ensure profitable, scalable and sustainable market share growth in line with group KPIs, annual budgets and P&L planning. Balancing the demands of fiscal objectives against the development of a positive brand in conjunction with our core values and company culture. This involves creating a high performing culture where openness and trust allows us to actively identify and analysis our strengths, weakness and opportunities for organic investment or M&A opportunities in-country through a mix of developing and mentoring for performing regions and hands on rebuilding if necessary, in regions where there are market challenges. To effectively balance and deliver upon cross functional/divisional projects from group HQ whilst maintaining and fostering the in-country nimbleness and entrepreneurial spirit that is cornerstone of our culture and key to serving our clients in a customer centric way. Part of my remit includes “challenging the status Quo” by analysing internal operations, projects and processes on a group and regional level with a view to identifying areas of potential enhancement or efficiencies and to encourage best practice sharing and knowledge transfer across our regional clusters so we can leverage the “multiplier effect”.Lastly, but of equal importance to the financials and achievement of KPIs, being a visible and passionate role model for our company culture and values, with a clear and consistent focus on our people, their professional and personal development and the culture that empowers them.

ABOUT JOHN MALONE
If I had to distil my approach as a leader to business specifically and as a person to life in general into a single bite-sized piece of information, it would be one simple phrase. “What’s complicated is rarely important and what’s important is rarely complicated”.Having gained over 20yrs of experience across a multitude of commercial and cultural environments with all the associated learnings I firmly believe that this phrase can be applied to all facets of business from clients to employees, financials to culture and everything in between, thus ensuring a focus on what is important. I consider my leadership style to be one of inclusion, development, ownership and responsibility with a high focus on integrity, authenticity and openess where all my people feel not only empowered and supported but valued, with a real stake in our sense of purpose achieving our shared goals, whilst always being mindful of the pitfalls of “groupthink”. I firmly believe that a high performing culture with positive pressure can only be achieved by creating an environment of responsibility, autonomy and reflection where everyone understands that mistakes will happen, but it is how we respond and learn from them that is the key to our future success and development.I consider myself to be neither a “blue” or a “red” personality as I am continuously learning and developing, as I strive to be direct yet subtle, analytical yet empathic, structured yet open to change, numbers focused yet people orientated, humorous yet consequential. I am a firm believer that the culture and the people who create it are the difference between success and failure in most areas of life, and I try to blend this belief with a genuine care and interest in the people I work with. I always attempt to merge these qualities with a highly competitive personal streak and a drive to learn and develop which helps to create teams and structures which while high performing are still fun, engaging and fulfilling environments to be a part of, with people and culture as the gravity that holds it all together and delivers results. And this culture always has one overriding mantra at its hearts……”its great to have responsibility….but always remember….you are responsible”
