ABOUT JOHN MAGUIRE
As Managing Director of M&A at Academy Securities, I focus on high-growth, dual-use technology markets, particularly in Defense Tech and Cybersecurity. My career is distinguished by a blend of entrepreneurial leadership, corporate development expertise, and extensive public sector service.I specialize in Mergers & Acquisitions and Corporate Development, executing transactions across the full M&A lifecycle. My buy-side expertise includes leading a multi-month global acquisition search for a Point72 Ventures AI portfolio company that successfully acquired a cybersecurity company, and, as Head of Commercial Corporate Development at Booz Allen Hamilton, leading the strategic investment into a cybersecurity company that culminated in its acquisition. On the sell-side, I have a successful track record leading business development and strategy for technology companies backed by Tier 1 venture capital firms, including Andreessen Horowitz (a16z), Greylock Partners, Accel, IQT, and Google Ventures (GV), achieving M&A exits to major strategic buyers like AT & T and Palo Alto Networks (PANW).Leveraging my operational experience, I have a history of building and scaling partner ecosystems through strategic alliances, technology partnerships, and OEM frameworks, establishing key channel partnerships and revenue share models, all while driving significant revenue growth. I also serve as a Venture Partner and Advisor in the Defense Tech and Cybersecurity venture ecosystem. Complementing my corporate career is my public sector background, having served as an Intelligence Officer in the United States Navy and as a senior staff member on the Senate Intelligence Committee. I continue to focus on the intersection of technology and policy as an Affiliate at the Center for International Security and Cooperation (CISAC) at Stanford University. I am actively building a high-performing M&A team at Academy Securities and welcome connections from exceptional candidates interested in joining our practice.Outside of my professional life, I am a husband and father of three now not-so-little children, and a passionate fan of Kansas City and Navy sports.
