Chief fundraiser and unit manager for the A. James Clark School of Engineering, overseeing a talented 15-person team that includes major and principal gifts, corporate and foundation relations, alumni engagement and donor relations, and stewardship. Lead a comprehensive outreach and fundraising program to support the strategic initiatives of the school as well as a sustainable infrastructure to support future fundraising efforts. Responsible for identification of potential major-gift and principal level donors. Identify and engage regional development markets in collaboration with development colleagues and maintain development travel schedules. Collaborate with the university’s offices of gift planning, corporate and foundation relations, annual giving, leadership annual giving, regional giving, prospect research, and the alumni association on strategies for donors related to those areas. Oversee strategic development and alumni events to expand the major gift pipeline. Participate in the design, recruitment, and support of the school’s Board of Visitors. Serve as a key member of the dean’s senior staff and provide meaningful input on the full range of issues facing the school. Work effectively within an environment of shared governance, developing collaborative and solutions-oriented relationships with leaders, faculty members, and colleagues in support of UMD and Clark School’s academic mission and strategic vision. Work with a broad range of diverse individuals and groups, including senior executives, to achieve shared goals. Serve as a leader within the development enterprise at UMD, actively advancing the existing culture of excellence, collaboration, accountability and professionalism. Leverage extraordinary communication and negotiation skills, political savvy and flexibility to navigate a complex academic community.
