ABOUT JANIS MATISONS
Janis has over 36 years of academic and industrial experience working in silicon and polymer-based materials, specialty chemicals, applied research, product development, custom synthesis, & commercialization. He is a highly motivated and innovative senior chemist that has demonstrated the ability to manage major technical projects. He quickly becomes proficient in new technologies by conducting research, product development, process research as well as scale-up in a chemical engineering environment. Skills include chemical synthesis, developing new materials, analytical chemistry and product formulation. Working experience with various facets of polysiloxanes synthesis, silanes, silicone resins, polymer processing, and managing products from concept to commercialization. He was recently named Vice President of Silar, an MPD Chemicals company. Prior to Silar, Janis worked at Gelest for 5 years, where he served as individual contributor and manager of the Silicones Research and Development, Technical Service and quality groups. He has spent almost two decades as an academic holding a personal Chair in Nanotechnology while a full professor at Flinders University. Earlier, he was a full professor of polymer science at the University of South Australia; and worked for Flexichem conducting silicones R&D. He is the Chief and Founding Editor of the book series, Advances in Silicon Science. He has published over 500 technical papers,books and conference presentations. He received the Royal Australian Chemical Institute’s highest honor in applied research; the Applied Research Medal, in 2008. More recently, he received the NATAS Fellow award at the ICTAC conference in 2016.
