ABOUT HORST RUPPACH

Dr. Horst Ruppach joined Charles River Laboratories with the acquisition of NewLab BioQuality AG in 2008.He studied chemistry at the University of Cologne and the University of Marburg, Germany. He earned his PhD in Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) research in the laboratories of Dr. Rübsamen-Waigmann at the George-Speyer-Haus in Frankfurt. From 1997 to 2005, he and Dr. Andreas Immelmann established Analysis Biomedizinische Test GmbH, an internationally well-known company supplying services in the field of viral safety studies for the pharmaceutical industry. Since the fusion of NewLab BioQuality AG and Analysis GmbH in 2005, he has managed the growth of the virology departments which finally established NewLab as one of the global leaders in providing virus safety testing for biologics. After acquisition of NewLab by Charles River Laboratories 2008 he developed the Cologne site to a centre of excellence for virus clearance validation and managed the extension and the move of the Cologne site into new state of the art laboratories. He has now global responsibilities for virus safety and supervises the virus clearance departments in Cologne, Germany and Malvern, PA, USA. Currently he establishes new state of the art virus clearance laboratories at the King of Prussia, PA site and harmonizes the quality assurance systems and operational procedures of both sites. Dr. Ruppach has more than 20 years of experience in the field of virology and is a proven expert for technical and regulatory aspects of virus safety in compliance with GLP/GMP requirements.
