ABOUT GREGORY GREENSTREET

I am a serial entrepreneur with over 35 years of software engineering & leadership experience. My strength lies in building & scaling high performance engineering & product teams to help companies to achieve positive outcomes. My technical expertise is rooted in large distributed systems, big data and ML/AI.My work experience includes:Leading large engineering orgs in public companies => Twitter & SplunkHelped start Digital Globe => IPOLeading 4 private companies to exit: NetIgnite => acquired by WebInteractive CreekPath System => acquired by HP Collective Intellect => acquired by Oracle GNIP => acquired by TwitterI am a people-first leader. Whether bootstrapping an engineering team for an early stage company or helping to streamline larger organizations, I find creating a culture with a focus on accountability and execution is fundamental to building engineering/product teams that ship.I strive to create a mindful and positive culture which helps ensure team continuity (i.e. low attrition) and results in engineering/product teams with good morale. Happy people do their best work. In the words of Peter Drucker, “Culture Eats Strategy For Breakfast\".Experienced at managing engineering organizations from small startups to 250+ employees in larger companies. Adept at managing remote teams across several continents/timezones.I approach management as a craft and follow new thought leaders in the technical space such as Michael Lopp (Managing Humans) and Camille Fournier (The Manager\'s Path), as well as seasoned business veterans like Patrick Lencioni ( Five Dysfunctions of a Team, The Advantage).I recognize the importance creating good leaders and took the initiative at Twitter to create the first IC to EM course at the company. There is no better way to scale an organization than creating informed, empathetic and skilled leaders. People don\'t leave companies, they leave managers.I have also seen first hand the real benefits of diverse engineering teams and continually work with groups such as NCWIT, NSBE, CU Women in Computing, WWC, Girl Develop It to ensure I am creating a pipeline of diverse candidates for hiring.Outside of work, I stay technically sharp and connected to the community through teaching as an Adjunct Professor at CU (Computer Science) and mentoring at TechStars accelerator locally. In addition I serve on the Advisory Board of Computer Science at CU.When I\'m not working, you\'ll find me with my family living an active life in Boulder: cycling, snowboarding, nordic skiing and playing music.
