WWNZ owns and operates over 184 Countdown supermarkets and employs 18,500 people across its stores, support offices, processing plants and distribution centres.• Providing operational oversight for all inbound and outbound product at the Auckland distribution centre, which controls distribution to all supermarkets nationwide• Working closely with the three Shift Managers at the site and with shift crews of up to 110 people moving on average pallets per week• Tasked with meeting DIFOT (Delivery In Full On Time) and cost targets – getting all product to stores on time, avoiding out of stock events, using resources (labour/equipment) efficiently • Major focus on Health and Safety of the warehouse team using heavy machinery and working at height – ensuring standards are followed and targeting incident reductions• Collaborating with the Transport Manager in managing multiple 3PL transport providers – focused on performance management and Health & Safety risk minimisation• Visiting a number of Progressive supermarkets – particularly looking at the safety and efficiency of truck bays and unloading areas and listening to any concerns from store ownersProjects/Achievements:• Currently trialling a process based on Lean principles that aims to increase speed by reducing the number of ‘touches’ per pallet• Implemented a Traffic Management initiative that improved safety by achieving better separation of people and machinery• Improvements in metrics for the period Feb-Jul 2019 include:o Pallet Dispatch Rate increased from 6.1 to 7.6, Receiving Rate from 6.9 to 9.1o Cartons Per Lift increased from 181.6 to 198.2o Truck Turn Around Time decreased from 57 mins to 34 mins
