Our Task Force focuses on addressing knowledge gaps around sustainable fishing practices within marine protected areas (MPAs) and Other Effective Area-Based Conservation Measures (OECMs). Our work aims to clarify which types, scales, and intensities of fisheries are compatible with conservation objectives, and to strengthen global guidance on integrating sustainable use and biodiversity protection within MPAs. ABOUT ESTRADIVARI
Dr. Estradivari is a marine ecologist at the Leibniz Centre for Tropical Marine Research (ZMT), specializing in marine conservation, coral reef ecology, and impact assessment. She currently co-chairs the IUCN WCPA Task Force on Fisheries and Conserved Areas and the IUCN WCPA Asia OECM Working Group. Her work bridges research, policy, and practice, with a strong focus on strengthening marine management in the Coral Triangle and beyond. Estra has contributed to improving MPA management effectiveness and advancing the recognition of OECMs in Indonesia, helping to shape national conservation strategies through inclusive, science-informed processes. She has published some publications, with many of her studies used to inform policy development, guide adaptive management, and promote conservation approaches that aim for real societal impacts. Her research emphasizes co-design and co-creation with local communities and stakeholders, balancing biodiversity protection with sustainable resource use. She collaborates closely with governments, NGOs, academia, and international organizations to support evidence-based conservation and drive positive change. Beyond her research, Estra enjoys creating infographics and visual summaries to communicate complex scientific findings in clear, accessible ways, helping bridge the gap between science, policy, and practice.
