ABOUT ERIC FORD
Eric W. Ford (Ph.D. – UAB; MPH – South Carolina; BS – Cornell School of Hotel Administration) is a Professor at The University of Alabama Birmingham and serves as the Editor of the Journal of Healthcare Management. Prior to that he worked at Johns Hopkins University’s Department of Health Policy and Management in the Bloomberg School of Public Health. Earlier, he was the Forsyth Medical Center Distinguished Professor of Healthcare at the University of North Carolina Greensboro. At Texas Tech, he was the Director of the Center for Healthcare Innovation, Education and Research in addition to being the Program Director for the MD/MBA degree. Eric has also held positions at Tulane University, Pennsylvania State University and served as a research fellow at the University of Alabama – Birmingham’s School of Public Health. He has been a consultant to the Louisiana Department of Health and Human Services, Pennsylvania’s Office of Rural Health, the U.S. Veterans’ Administration, the Texas Department of Health, the Alabama Medicaid Agency, Cooper Greene Public Hospital in Birmingham, and the Texas Legislature’s Health Information Technology Committee.Eric’s research interests have focused on strategic management, health care organizations, and information technology systems. Currently, he is part of two Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality grants. One is studying the Regional Health Information Organization for rural Louisiana. The second is studying the Leapfrog Group’s patient safety initiatives in hospitals.
