WORK HISTORY

Aug 2023 — Present

Adjunct Faculty - Mass Communication @El Paso Community College

El Paso, TX, US

Instructor of multiple in-person and online classes at a large and diverse urban community college system. Courses are designed to give students a solid foundation for entering mass media programs at major public universities in Texas and New Mexico or for earning an associate’s degree at EPCC. I actively integrate generative AI into the learning process, embedding it in the Learning Management System (LMS) and encouraging students to ethically use AI tools to support research, brainstorm ideas, organize their thinking, and develop stronger assignments. This prepares students for a rapidly evolving media landscape where AI will be a foundational part of content creation and strategic communication.Courses taught include: • Introduction to Advertising• Introduction to Public Relations• Introduction to Mass Communication• Film AppreciationI teach Introduction to Advertising (COMM 2327) with an applied, community-focused approach. The course has evolved to include a highly popular partnership with the college’s Small Business Development Center (SBDC), in which students design real-world advertising campaigns for actual local businesses. This hands-on project allows students to apply classroom concepts to actual client work, sharpening their creative, strategic, and communication skills. To deepen industry engagement, I also bring in guest speakers from a local advertising agency to share insights about the profession. Students not only gain valuable exposure to the field but also have the opportunity to apply for internships. Notably, students from my class have been selected and now work full-time in an ad agency, a testament to my course\'s career-building focus.

ABOUT ERIC JASPER

As a doctoral student at the University of Memphis, specializing in mass media and cultural studies, I bridge academic theory with real-world media experience. Over the past three decades, I’ve worked across nearly every major media platform, broadcast television, cable, digital, out-of-home, and radio, serving in roles from sales and marketing to research, creative, and campaign strategy. My career has taken me coast to coast and border to border, through major U.S. markets like Los Angeles and Dallas, where I created national and local advertising opportunities for brands such as Ford, GM, Hyundai, Chili\'s, McDonald’s, Jack in the Box, and Whataburger. I’ve led cross-platform marketing initiatives at the station, regional, and national levels, developing integrated solutions that aligned creative, media, and data. Along the way, I’ve helped media companies evolve, introducing best practices, modernizing research, and mentoring emerging professionals.Today, I teach at El Paso Community College, where I bring this diverse background into the classroom, equipping students with the critical thinking, writing, and digital skills they need to succeed in today’s media environment. Whether I’m guiding future advertising execs or unpacking media effects theory, I strive to make learning both practical and transformative.Driven by curiosity and a deep respect for culture and communication, I continue to explore how media shapes identity, community, and public perception, especially through humor, representation, and storytelling.
