About Emma Mitchell
Born and raised in the city of Accra, Ghana, I have seen the increasing gender disparity amongst my people. While women have been domesticated to a point where they believe they have little to no value to underprivileged children who embody creativity and excellence but lack the attention they require to nurture this gift. I have always had a passion to solve at least one or both of these problems. My purpose was birthed through seeing my father start his company from scratch and building a heavy haulage and logistics company from the ground with little to no help. I watched him push through, think rationally, be the most optimistic there is, and work methodologically to solve problems and provide his clients with the best service from start to finish. I found my purpose in economics and finance. I am efficient in economic and analytical situations, especially striving in situations that allow me to think strategically. Having moved to the US, to pursue my college degree I adapted to my new environment quickly and I find myself being able to accomplish all my goals with little or no complications. Through my roles at Drexel University and the classes I have taken, I have learnt a lot about strategic and comparative advantage, investment markets, creating financial plans and international economies. In the attempt of bridging my passion with my purpose, I founded a nonprofit called the Emma Mitchell Foundation, named after my grandmother, one who left her mark in a male dominated industry and took politics and economic development by the horns. She showed me through her examples, the importance of giving back. My passion led me to create a platform that aims as improving the lives of women and children through health initiatives, education and empowerment programs.
