In my role as a TTC Fellow at #HalfTheStory, I assist with the program development of the NYS Teen Tech Council, an initiative designed to strengthen youth representation and amplify young voices in policy and legislative concerns regarding technology-related topics impacting youth. On behalf of #HalfTheStory, I have had the privilege of collaborating with Secretary Hillary Clinton of the Clinton Foundation and Governor Kathy Hochul of New York State-Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the development of agendas and scripts for bi-weekly/monthly TTC meetings, the design of applications and forms for students, analyzing and sorting student data collected through forms, conducting outreach, the development of partnerships with the council, and the oversight of communications directed towards both prospective and enrolled students.

ABOUT EMILY MUNIZ
Welcome! I am Emily, a Senior at New York University majoring in politics and minoring in psychology. I am currently working as a Teen Tech Council Fellow at #HalfTheStory, where I take part in the design and coordination of our Teen Tech Council, a year-long initiative that empowers teens with necessary skills and tools to lead the upcoming generation of breakthroughs in technology policy, digital wellness, and responsible technology. I am enthusiastic to foster positive social change and collaborate with others to assist students in need in every capacity possible. During the summer of 2023, I conducted a research project that revealed how standardized testing reinforces elements of structural racism and creates obstacles for low-income students. In 2024, I presented my project at Harvard University at their Scholarship & Social Justice Undergraduate Research Conference. I am currently working on a project that extends this one, examining how current legislation regarding higher education and the application process influence demographic data at educational institutions, thereby facilitating or obstructing educational accessibility across socioeconomic groups.As a former intern for Growth and Development Services—a non-profit organization that helps NYC youth combat social justice, family instability, and mental health challenges—I worked to contact public officials and connect with other organizations to advocate for the need for more accessible and affordable mental health and educational resources. I hope to bring about change through raising awareness of the detrimental effects of inaccessible channels for low-income youth to receive assistance. This change will eventually lead to a redesigned educational system that recognizes and will work to reduce these long-standing disparities eventually.
