ABOUT EMILY SUTER

With over 10 years of experience in public health planning, research, and evaluation, I am passionate about improving health outcomes and inequities. As an Accreditation Consultant at the Florida Department of Health, I led the reaccreditation process for the state health office and the integrated local public health system, ensuring compliance with the Public Health Accreditation Board (PHAB) standards and measures. I also managed the PHAB annual reporting and evaluation processes, identified quality improvement opportunities, and provided strategic oversight for the implementation of PHAB accreditation across the agency. Throughout my career, I have leveraged my skills in public health policy, urban and regional planning, emergency preparedness, program evaluation, and process improvement to deliver high-quality results and solutions. I have led multiple high-functioning teams, which included staff charged with PHAB reaccreditation, health planning, and core public health programs. In all my roles, I have collaborated with internal and external stakeholders, including state and local health departments, partners, and community members, to ensure effective communication, coordination, and alignment of goals and expectations. I have successfully designed and led multiple health planning and assessment projects, such as health impact assessments, community health needs assessments, and community health improvement plans, using data-driven and evidence-based approaches. My research interests include advancing policy, environmental, and systems change, emphasizing cross-sector collaboration and health equity. I am also interested in how artificial intelligence can streamline public health processes, programs, and assessments. I have worked in local and state health departments and public health non-profits, facilitating health impact assessments, community health assessments, community health improvement plans, and strategic planning processes throughout Florida. My credentials include a Master of Public Health (MPH) and a Master of Science in Planning (MSP) from Florida State University. I am currently pursuing my Doctor of Public Health at the University of Illinois at Chicago, with a focus on leadership and policy change.
