About Elmar Weber

Elmar Weber is a Google executive and General Manager of the Android & Business Communication team, with over two decades of experience in tech and telecom. As a founding member of Jibe Mobile (acquired by Google in 2015), he was instrumental in the global adoption of Rich Communication Services (RCS), and led the development of Google Messages and Jibe Cloud, now used by over a billion people per month.Elmar is a visionary leader and a technologist at heart. His thought leadership unlocked RCS\'s global scale. He spearheaded Jibe Cloud, the world\'s first cloud-native RCS platform, drastically reducing carrier deployment cost and time-to-market. He also led the creation of Jibe Hub, the first commercially deployed RCS interconnect hub, enabling global carrier connectivity. Recognizing the need for a unified standard, Elmar authored and championed the initial draft of the Universal Profile for RCS, now adopted industry-wide. Furthermore, he initiated the development of RCS for Business (aka RBM)- aiming to enhance business messaging and enable monetization across the ecosystem.These innovations have benefited carriers by streamlining RCS deployment, expanding reach and enabling monetization, while users enjoy modern messaging features out-of-the-box. Businesses can leverage RCS for Business for richer, more secure customer interactions with improved conversion rates.Elmar holds a Master\'s degree from the University of Cambridge, where he studied Electrical & Information Sciences. Outside of work, Elmar is an outdoor enthusiast. He enjoys riding his mountain bike and spending time with his wife, two children, and two Golden Retrievers.
