ABOUT ELIZABETH E.
At my core, I am an enthusiastic, relationship-driven storyteller. With the cadence of a comedian and the decorum of a data scientist, I serve as both a skilled builder and engaging translator of data-driven models. In my current role on a budding data science team, I also consider myself a “data doctor” as I spend much of my time observing symptoms in our company’s data, diagnosing possible causes, and coming up with treatment plans to remedy the undesirable symptoms in our data. I obtained my ACAS in February of 2023. I passed all exams on my first sitting with an average score of 9/10.I value intentional diversity and conscious ethics in all aspects of my work and personal life. Outside of work, my three main passions are performing arts, education, and social justice. I am an avid consumer of theatre, tutored with Math Motivators, am an active member of the Denver and Boulder Circus collectives, pioneered the virtual chapter of Nationwide’s Pride Associate Resource Group, and I currently run a podcast for women & ally actuaries.I graduated top of my class from Grinnell College in May of 2017 with a major in Mathematics and Statistics. In June of 2017, I began my career at Nationwide Mutual Insurance Company with the Research and Development team. Less than two years after starting, I built and implemented the first pricing model in the company which uses machine learning algorithms. I was promoted 3 times in my 5 year tenure with the company. In October of 2022, I transitioned to a new role at Everest Re as the third data scientist hire in the company. I have an extensive background in research, modeling data, and machine learning. I have worked intensively with generalized linear models, random forest regression, gradient boosting machines, clustering algorithms, and text mining. I have coded in R/RStudio, Python, SAS/SQL, Bash Scripting, Linux, LaTeX/TeXMaker, Teradata, Excel, Emblem, Tableau and a variety of other data visualization and modeling tools.I have received numerous awards for my success in both academia and my career, including the Archibald Prize for graduating at the top of my class at Grinnell College, a certificate of honors from one of the most prestigious math programs in the world: Budapest Semesters in Mathematics, the Pamela Ferguson Endowed Prize for my success in mathematics programs both abroad and in the US, MVP for my work on a genetic algorithm package I built at Nationwide, and 2nd place in Everest\'s Innovation challenge 2 years in a row.
