Oversees the management of 2.2 million acres (about the size of Indiana) of traditional lands retained by NANA under the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act of 1971. NANA’s land policies prioritize land use for traditional hunting, fishing, and gathering activities. NANA balances these traditional land uses with responsible resource development opportunities in order to deliver dividends and jobs to its 14,500 indigenous owners who are the Iñupiaq from northwest Alaska. The Vice President of Lands oversees and is accountable for conveyance of lands to local municipalities, protecting subsistence and NANA’s lands rights on behalf of shareholders, and management of subsistence advisory committees that provide guidance on resource development activities affiliated with NANA.
