ABOUT ELEANOR M GRIEVESON
MEng DPhil CEng CSciI am a Materials Scientist with 5 years academic research at the University of Oxford and 10+ years industrial experience at Rolls-Royce Plc, Jacobs and Amentum.I have extensive experience with steels for use as structural nuclear materials, and I have also worked on projects involving zircaloy, nickel alloys, tungsten, titanium and some non-metallics.My specific interests include microscopy, characterisation and failure investigation and I have a strong knowledge and experience of a range of practical laboratory techniques.I have planned, executed and analysed data on a range of materials tests including thermal ageing, irradiation damage, corrosion and environmental fatigue. I have managed multiple projects, including teams of up to 10 people and annual budgets up to £1-million.From July 2019 to October 2020 I took a career break. First, I volunteered as a Science Leader on a British Exploring Society expedition to the Peruvian Amazon. Then I spent 13 months pursuing self-organised travels around Europe, Tasmania, New Zealand and Scotland.Since the end of 2020, I have worked for Jacobs as a Metallurgist in their nuclear engineering business. In October 2024 my area of Jacobs was spun-off and merged with Amentum, our work continues on the same topics and contracts. I work on a range of projects covering fission and fusion, environmental fatigue, irradiation damage, stress corrosion cracking, and coatings.
