ABOUT EDEN FANEUFF

I am a passionate scientist, dedicated to investigating immunology, virology, infectious diseases, and rare genetic conditions. I hope to obtain a career in R&D, cell therapies, and/or small molecule drug development and design. I aim to contribute exceptional laboratory and research skills towards therapeutics or diagnostic product development pipelines that lead to effective treatments against rare diseases, cancer, inflammatory diseases or against pathogenic microbes. I have recently graduated from the Microbe-Host Interactions Ph.D. program in the Pathology, Microbiology, and Immunology Department at Vanderbilt University. I worked with Dr. Henrique Serezani and investigated the role of the tumor suppressor protein PTEN on chemotaxis, phagocytosis, and immune pathway regulation in macrophages and neutrophils in vivo and in vitro during bacterial infection. I isolated PBMCs and monocytes from a PTEN haploinsufficient patient to investigate the translational aspects of my project with human innate immune cells. For my research, I bred, maintained, and genotyped 3 mouse lines to yield mice with macrophages that were PTEN deficient. In addition, we designed CRISPR PTEN KO macrophages. I designed and implemented new assays, spearheaded immunoassay development, and improved existing assays. I created confocal imaging pipelines for immunofluorescent targets in live and fixed cells and tissues, performed murine infection models with cell and organ harvesting and analysis, designed and executed multi-color flow cytometry panels and cytokine analysis, performed molecular biology experiments such as RTq-PCR, and profiled immune and disease pathways by RNA-sequencing of murine and human phagocytes. I graduated from Cal Poly Pomona with my Master’s Degree. I worked with Dr. Jill Adler-Moore\'s research lab, studying the protective immune response of liposomes with only adjuvant in female mice given H1N1 (PR/8) or H3N2 (X-31) influenza viruses. I combined liposomes with different adjuvants to test different immune responses to infection and performed efficacy and dosing administration studies. I generated murine lung susceptible viral strains for in vivo infection models. I performed viral titration, viral lung burden, and Luminex cytokine assays to understand the cytokine response within the murine lung.
