In 2019 joined forces with faculty from South Dakota Mines and Syracuse University to apply and successfully complete the planning grant for the NSF Industry-University Cooperative Research Center (IUCRC) – Center for Solid-State Electric Power Storage (CEPS). Since 2021, simultaneously with the full-time position at NUCRET, he assumed responsibility of the Managing Director at CEPS (Phase 1 / 5 years budget involving multiple affiliated faculty from member-universities, 20+ PhD research assistants, 8 post-doctoral researchers, numerous undergraduate researchers and interns), a multi-university/industry center with federal recognition under the NSF auspices (Center members include Northeastern University, Syracuse University, South Dakota School of Mines and Technology, Mercedes-Benz, Nissan, Honda, Black Hills Energy, Carrier, Daktronics, C4V, Nth Cycle, VRC Metal Systems, Medtronic, PolyPlus Battery Company, Arbin, BryAir, and more). CEPS’ objective is to conduct cutting-edge pre-competitive research by university/industry/national laboratories in the area of solid-state electrolyte energy storage devices with enhanced safety characteristics for electronics, automotive, residential, medical and other critical applications.
