ABOUT ADJ ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR PETER MALOUF
An accomplished executive leader, I have dedicated my career to driving inclusivity, particularly for Indigenous peoples, in the context of both healthcare and educational environments.Throughout my career, I have undertaken substantial work across the government and not-for-profit sectors with a focus on public health and tropical medicine. I have dedicated my career to improving cultural governance and empowering First Nations people to engage with academia, industry, and government.I pride myself on my interpersonal skills that have allowed me to develop robust academic, research, and professional networks, that I routinely leverage to drive positive project outcomes. With my accessible communication style and deep understanding of Indigenous knowing, being and doing, I can support Indigenous people from all walks of life to access education and healthcare that would not otherwise be available to them.Having held multiple senior leadership roles, I have become known for building strong, engaged, and motivated teams who deliver great results, and for my sound commercial acumen that drives positive business outcomes. In working with multiple higher education institutions, I have demonstrated my passion for working with Indigenous students to support them in pursuing their academic goals, whilst also driving improved cultural engagement across the sector. Some of my career highlights include:• Established collaborative relationships with the Townsville Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community to implement a holistic approach to addressing youth suicide through roundtable discussions with the Elders, community members and service providers. This initiative led to the creation of a Local Action Alliance tasked with improving early prevention, response and postvention.• Led the development and implementation of the an Aboriginal & Islander Health Service Strategic Plan 20••••25 in conjunction with the Board, delivering on over 40% of the plan in the first year and attracting over $10 million of new program funding to the organisation.• Planned and launched the inaugural Cultural Immersion Day 2020 with the Sydney Medical School as part of the refreshed Indigenous Health Curriculum, allowing students to engage with Indigenous patients more meaningfully in a culturally safe and appropriate way.Currently, I am open to new academic opportunities – so if you’d like to know more about me and what I can bring to a role, please feel free to get in touch.
