About Deniz Karagulle
As a Principal GIS Engineer on the Living Atlas Team at Esri Deniz researches and produces global environmental data. Throughout her career, Deniz has been dedicated to advancing the field of GIS and making significant contributions to environmental science. One of her notable achievements includes being the lead author of the World Landform Dataset, which was featured in the National Geographic Concise Atlas of the World as well as Transactions in GIS.In addition to her authorship of the World Landform Dataset, Deniz co-authored and was one of the lead investigators on the World Terrestrial Ecosystems (WTE) 2015 and Projected WTE 2050 projects. By projecting future ecosystem scenarios, the WTE projects also offer a crucial tool for anticipating and mitigating the impacts of environmental change. The data produced through the WTE projects has far-reaching implications for environmental conservation, land management, and policy-making.As a leader in her field, Deniz continues to inspire and drive innovation in GIS field, contributing to a better understanding of our planet and the complex systems that sustain life.
