WORK HISTORY

Feb 2024 — Present

Major Projects Director @Essential Energy

Tweed Heads, AU

Group Manager for Tier 1 Projects on the NSW Electricity Distribution network, up to 132kV, enabling major new connections for generation and load centres to facilitate the electrification of the NSW economy and unlock the competitive advantage that this will bring to the state and Australia in general. As the east coast starts to take advantage of the commitment to electrify the economy, our challenges move from delivering in a reliable risk-free manner to one of matching and aligning with our customers, be they generators or big load consumers - both of whom can have their side of the fence ready in almost the same timeframe as the T&D organisations can procure the long lead time items. Our conversations move from a de-risking of the project to one of what is the opportunity cost, what is the risk and what is the consequential value of what decisions we are making. Alongside the project works, the remainder of the organisation is also changing, lag indicators are replaced by leading indicators, processes are being scaled and changed to meet the different demands being placed on the systems and processes. The physics of what we do remains the same - get a bag of money, a set of drawings and a list of contractors - deliver the outcome within the required quality and timeframe.but everything else around it, the reporting, the support, the systems, the interfaces and the governance is changing. It is an exciting and exhilarating time to be in the industry, and one of my next objectives is to join the ABCN to encourage our future generation to follow a career in STEM subjects and eventually come and make an even better job of transforming the world than we are.
