ABOUT DANAE W.
I’m a conservation communicator and strategist who helps organizations and individuals connect more deeply with the natural world. At The Nature Conservancy, I lead marketing and communications for the Leveraging Our Lands program, guiding a $6M strategy to transform visitor engagement across preserves nationwide. My work centers on building audience-driven frameworks that go beyond “butts-in-seats” metrics to spark lasting connections with land, wildlife, and community.I’m also the founder and creative director behind Chasing Bugs, a platform dedicated to insect conservation storytelling. Through books, photography, and talks, I give voice to the overlooked and undervalued—showing how wonder can be a powerful driver of action. My recently published book, Grass Isn’t Greener, challenges traditional aesthetics in landscaping and redefines beauty in terms of biodiversity and resilience. What ties it all together? A belief that change happens when people feel empowered. Whether developing strategy, leading project teams, or telling stories, I bring curiosity, creativity, and a deep commitment to building a more hopeful and biodiverse future.
