At BlackRock as an analyst I am taking part in a rotational program during which I am rotating through four teams within the firm to develop an array of developer skills and further familiarity with the financial and technological workflow at the company. My responsibilities included but were not limited to: developing and modifying API endpoints for existing Java applications and micro-services using frameworks such as Google protobuf; creating a python command line interface (CLI) to create consolidated access to API’s and data in a format that was accessible and communicable to both technologists and financiers; updating legacy core infrastructure perl scripts to communicate with encrypted traffic instead of clear text; and modifying existing Java applications that were integral for firm-wide authentication to utilize Hashicorp Vault technology for managing secrets and sensitive data. These tasks were completed using the agile software development methodology and included task tracking via Jira as well as extensive testing in multiple environments.
