ABOUT CHRIS VILLALTA

Thank you for reviewing my page. I have worked on numerous professional design projects from regular renovation projects for the dormitory buildings a Phillips Exeter Academy in Exeter, NH, to the new Trader Joes Distribution Center in Bloomfield, CT, to a new Athletic Center Proposal for Becker College in Leicester, MA. I am a registered architect in the State Massachusetts. I’m interested in gaining more learning about regional craft and vernacular, construction traditions, and contextual landscape. Then, working iteratively with a broad range of physical materials, and hand drawing and sketching throughout a design process to develop architectural proposals. I completed my Master of Architecture degree at Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), plus a collegiate teaching certificate. I finished my degree investigating how pre-colonial Blue Ridge Cherokee residential construction was resilient to time and weather, reciprocated place, and respected the environment, traditions, and politics of the region. Architectural materiality and building details participate in a dialogue that is regionally specific to values and traditions in local building vernacular, across architectural tectonics, interior experiences, and landscape. In addition, I hold an MBA from Worcester Polytechnic Institute focused on innovation and entrepreneurship. With my 19-year background in the Army (now a drilling reservist in the Army National Guard), I have no doubt I have all the skills needed to add value in any collaboration.
