WORK HISTORY

Oct 2023 — Present

Senior Adviser -learning Disability and Autistic People @Local Government Association

I am working for Partners in Care and Health (PCH), a collaboration between the LGA and ADASS. • I oversee PCH’s learning disability and autism peer reviews, using sector led methodology to review local support for people with a learning disability and autistic people across social care and NHS systems. Critical to this work is the input of colleagues with lived and learnt experience of learning disability and autism during interviews with local citizens, practitioners, commissioners and providers. Co-produced conversations, based on triangulation of evidence, inform recommendations to improve system outcomes.• I lead PCH’s national Learning Disability and Autism Community of Practice to highlight local learning, national updates and to support best practice discussions with social care and NHS practitioners and system leaders.• I facilitated targeted work with local councils to reduce reliance on high levels of care, which could be experienced as restrictive ‘hospital at home’ care packages. Through reviewing national and local data, triangulating themes from conversations with local practitioners and discussing feedback at workshops, I supported local systems to prioritise actions to reduce restrictive care and promote person led community provision.• I worked with the British Institute of Human Rights to develop practitioners confidence in safeguarding human rights to secure rights based support for people to live great lives in their local areas. A practitioner resource, a national webinar and regional workshops supported learning.• I support other social care priorities across PCH. For example, through discussions with Principal Social Workers (PSW) networks I secured support for PSWs preparing for CQC inspections through setting up a national Preparing for CQC Community of Practice.
