ABOUT CAINE CHENNATT

I work at the intersection of higher education, arts, and cultural life to help foster future-focused, inclusive, artistic and critically engaged societies. My practice is grounded in the belief that learning, culture, and care are deeply interconnected. That universities have a vital civic role in nurturing belonging, wellbeing, and public value.My leadership experience sits within university galleries, libraries, museums, and cultural collections, where I work with and support multidisciplinary teams delivering scholarly information services, curatorial programs, and cultural infrastructure that advance research, teaching, and public engagement (primarily through exhibitions). I am particularly committed to developing people and leadership capability, creating conditions where expertise, care, and collaboration can thrive.Across my career, I have worked within universities, art centres, university-based galleries and collections, public art commissioning, exhibitions, and arts engagement projects - bringing together the promise of education with the transformative potential of the arts, for students and the public more widely. As a curator, my focus is on working with artists and arts workers exploring complexity, plural identities, expanded ways of knowing, belonging, and hope. Recent contemporary art curated exhibitions include De/Centre for Belonging, Articulate Matter (Ten Days on the Island Festival), and Interfacial Intimacies (Dark Mofo, and touring nationally).Alongside this, I am an accredited mediator in conflict resolution. This informs how I lead, support teams, and approach organisational change; with an emphasis on relational intelligence, dialogue, and navigating complexity in an era of overlapping social, environmental, and institutional challenges.I take a systems-aware approach to impact, recognising that meaningful change occurs across personal, organisational, community, and cultural levels. My work focuses on strengthening organisational cultures that support critical thinking, care, and resilience, while supporting individuals to lead and show up with purpose, curiosity, and generosity in uncertain times.I live in Nipaluna Hobart and work across the island of lutruwita Tasmania. I recognise the Palawa people of Tasmania as the original owners of Country, and acknowledge their continuing connection to land, culture, and community.
