ABOUT BRAD COCHRAN

Brad Cochran has over 25 years of experience conducting wind-tunnel and numerical (analytical and Computational Fluid Dynamic (CFD)) modeling studies related to laboratory, hospital and data center ventilation design. Brad has managed projects for such clients as Harvard, UCLA, the National Institutes of Health, University of Texas Medical Center, Loyola University, Genentech, and the University of California. While employed at CPP, he has also been instrumental in the development of the EPA accepted Equivalent Building Dimension concept for making generic dispersion models more site specific. During the past decade, Brad has helped define new design techniques to minimize the energy requirements for laboratory exhaust stacks by utilizing VAV technologies. The techniques include simple turndown, where the systems are designed to operate under the minimum potential HVAC loads; wind responsive systems which set the minimum flow rates based on the presence of chemicals within the exhaust stream. He has authored and presented several papers on the subject for ASHRAE, Labs 21, Labswise, R&D Magazine, CMCA, CSHEMA, IFMA, RPIC and AWMA.In 2011, Brad became one of the very first recipients in the nation of prestigious GO BEYOND award for an individual by International Institute for Sustainable Laboratories for his outstanding contributions to the field of efficiency and sustainability in laboratory design.
