ABOUT BOBBY SMITHSON

As Chief Operating Officer of Clinical Pathology Laboratories it is my passion to provide continuous quality reference laboratory services to the providers and patients, delivered by a staff of 2,500 employees working daily in eight states. CPL continues to meet the challenges our industry has experienced and understands that change is always a part of our industry. I have had the opportunity over the past 32 years to work in most capacities of our industry and have learned many lessons along the way. I have also been fortunate to have met several laboratory professionals who became mentors to me, and over time I have been equally fortunate to mentor others. The industry has been very good to me and I feel a responsibility to prepare the next generation of leaders. As the past President of CPL I have led through tumultuous times; flood, fire, epic winter storms and an unparalleled pandemic, but through it all I have witnessed an incredible staff of laboratory professionals who consistently put patient care above all else. This experience will be forever remembered as both the most trying and rewarding times of my career. Whatever the future holds I have learned that if we keep our focus on the highest level of patient care, all else will work out for the best. I am certain that Dr. Mark Silberman, who follows me as CPL’s next President will not only continue a patient care focus, but will incorporate the advancing technology of our industry to improve on the service CPL provides. We can all learn a lot from looking back over our history, but there is even more to learn by looking ahead at what the future holds for CPL and all who we serve.
