ABOUT BIRGITTE SØRHEIM

As a dedicated leader with more than three decades of experience, I have consistently driven innovation, sustainability, and strategic growth, primarily in aquaculture. Through my work with Benchmark Holdings and other leading companies in the seafood industry, I’ve developed a deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities shaping the future of aquaculture.With expertise in strategic brand management, PR and communication, business development, and sales, I have successfully led teams focused on enhancing productivity, environmental responsibility, and profitability across the supply chain. My work is rooted in the belief that sustainable aquaculture is essential to meeting global demand for healthy, high-quality seafood. I am committed to finding solutions that balance industry growth with environmental preservation.I’ve also had the privilege of being part of a startup, joining FishPool, the European Salmon Exchange, as employee number two. Building a business from the ground up was both challenging and rewarding, especially as we hit key milestones for success. At Frende Forsikring, a new insurance company in Norway, I had the opportunity to guide the business from its early stages to maturity. Serving on the top management teams of Frende Skadeforsikring (damage insurance) and Frende Livsforsikring (life insurance), I gained extensive experience in strategic business management and valuable insights into the insurance industry.In 2015, I returned to the aquaculture sector to make a meaningful impact on the future of sustainable aquaculture. Benchmark allowed me to take on a senior leadership role as Marketing Director in their Genetics division. From November 2022 until December 2024, I was a part of the senior management team at Benchmark Animal Health, in addition to my role in Genetics.Over the years, my interest in board service has grown, driven by my experience and skills cultivated throughout my career. I currently hold several board positions, both as chair and member. I also represent my company on the board and committees in the two Norwegian seafood trade organisations, Sjømatbedriftene and Sjømat Norge.I thrive on collaboration, innovation, and sharing knowledge to foster progress. Whether leading teams, engaging with industry stakeholders, or contributing as a board member, I aim to achieve ambitious business objectives.
