About Anna Shapiro
Anna Shapiro is an artist and entrepreneur. She tackles concepts of social and ecological issues using metal, fabric, paint and thread. Over the last decade she has received awards and residencies for her sculptures and installations. She has spoken on panels about Chinese iron casting in relationship to five-element medicine and panels about ecofeminism. She has published in alternative papers, and is known as the “wavelady” for her ongoing performance about making waves. Her studio is in Providence RI. Anna has catalyzed many creative industries in Boston and Rhode Island. She consults for start up businesses and has taught financial workshops for artists. Recently she coordinated (corralled is more like it) Wooly Fair 2011. In addition she was the Director of Firehouse 13••••••06), the director of Boston Sculptors Gallery (20••••02), served as a National Park Service Park Ranger, and as a wilderness guide. Anna is on the board at the Steelyard (RI) and is the steward of a mobile hydroponic agricultural program.
