a new global energy vector, ammonia enables a completely carbon-free energy economy. Where hydrogen and carbon-based E-Fuels meet their limitations, ammonia is a reliable and long established high performer. CAMPFIRE was founded in 2019 within the frame of the BMBF programm WIR-Wandel durch Innovation in der Region. Over 70 CAMPFIRE partners from industry and research institutions join forces for technology development and establishment of carbon-free value chains based on ammonia. New technologies are developed for market establishment of the future global green ammonia ecosystem, including electroceramics and catalysts, reactors and synthesis plants for the seasonal production of ammonia, ammonia crackers in hybridisation with gas engines and fuel cells for emission-free propulsion in shipping and for stationary power generation as well as ship design. CAMPFIRE develops ammonia refuelling systems, shore-side and sea-side safety systems for the application of ammonia drives on board yachts, inland vessels and seagoing vessels, logistics and infrastructure concepts for the distribution and utilization of green ammonia as well as concepts for acceptance of ammonia and for training and schooling of operational personal. For all green ammonia technologies the legal framework is reviewed and concepts derived for future implementation of ammonia as fuel and energy storage. All of our projects follow a strategic roadmap that is continuously developed by the CAMPFIRE Open Innovation Management and all members of the alliance are commited to a transparent strong partnership and the common goal - to enable ammonia as a key to a hydrogen economy and future energy security.
