About Andrew H. Nance
I am Andrew H. Nance, and I serve as the 208th CBRN (Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear) Commander in the United States Army while simultaneously working in the rail industry. Balancing both roles has been an incredible challenge, but it’s one that continuously pushes me to grow as a leader. In my civilian endeavors, I focus on driving the nation’s supply chain management, coordinating and directing operations that ensure critical goods and resources reach communities across the country. My 13 years of professional experience in railroading laid the foundation for my current responsibilities, as both fields demand operational precision, constant vigilance, and an unwavering commitment to safety. The lessons I learned on the rail lines, discipline, adaptability, and thorough communication, now empower me in my work with the 208th CBRN. Each day, I strive to integrate the structured problem-solving approach I honed in the rail industry with the fast-paced, high-stakes environment of CBRN operations. In my military role, I oversee specialized training and readiness initiatives that protect our nation from chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear threats. I also collaborate with senior leadership to refine policy, modernize protocols, and ensure our soldiers have every tool they need for successful missions. At the same time, my commitment to mentorship and professional development remains strong, whether on the tracks or in uniform.Navigating two demanding careers is no small feat, but I believe these dual perspectives make me a more effective leader. My passion for public safety and efficiency drives me to excel in both roles, ultimately contributing to the well-being of my team, my community, and our country. Above all, I remain grateful for the opportunities to serve in these two vital arenas, where I can combine my railroading expertise and military training to help build a safer, stronger future.
