As a Senior Experience Designer at Capgemini, I’m leading the redesign of HMRC’s developer onboarding as part of a wider DevEx initiative, working closely with a cross-functional team. I began by unpacking the full journey to understand why onboarding was taking months and where developers were getting stuck. Together with stakeholders across engineering and platform teams, we’ve shaped a clearer, more practical direction for how onboarding should work.The goal is simple: move from a slow, fragmented experience to something more structured and supported, helping developers get up to speed in weeks, not months. I work across strategy and delivery, using tools like Figma, FigJam, and Mural to bring clarity to complex processes and align teams around a shared direction- Mapped the full onboarding journey end-to-end, identifying key friction points across access, tooling, and platform entry that were slowing developers down- Facilitated workshops with senior stakeholders to align on vision, priorities, and what “good” looks like for onboarding at HMRC- Designed onboarding flows and entry points within Backstage (IDP), focusing on making the experience more guided and easier to navigate for new developers- Translated complex internal processes into clear user journeys and service blueprints, helping teams move from abstract discussions to concrete decisions- Helped shift the conversation from fixing isolated issues to improving the overall onboarding experience, building strong alignment and momentum across teams.
