ABOUT ANA SOFIA SILVA

I am a PhD in Bioengineering within the framework of the MIT Portugal Program, with over 12 years of expertise in Biomaterials, Tissue Engineering, and Regenerative Medicine. Throughout the years, I have worked in diverse areas, ranging from particle and polymer engineering to nanotechnology, cancer biology, bone tissue engineering, and wound healing. I have transitioned between various research institutions and had the opportunity to work abroad in esteemed research centers. These experiences not only allowed me to learn new techniques and enhance my critical thinking but also enabled me to build invaluable networks. By exploring the relationship between biomaterials and cells and investigating the design of 3D microenvironments to emulate in vivo conditions for tissue engineering applications, I have developed a strong background in innovation, R&D, teaching, securing funding, leading research projects, and supervising teams. More specifically, I am a co-founder of a research group, Research Line Responsible, Principal Investigator, and supervisor of postdocs (2), PhD students (4), MSc students (7), BSc students (3), and master\'s fellows (5). I also teach Chemistry, Biochemistry, and Cell and Tissue Engineering. As a Principal Investigator and supervisor, my responsibilities include: • Defining innovative projects to address unmet clinical needs • Designing in vitro studies to demonstrate technology performance • Validating and interpreting results • Revising and rewriting documents, including reports and manuscripts • Supporting and mentoring students and researchers. As a Senior Researcher, I am a project writer for European, National, and International proposals, fully committed to the entire writing process from beginning to end. This includes focusing on excellence, impact, communication, dissemination, exploitation, and sustainability activities to maximize project impact, as well as risk assessment, milestone definitions, and budget development while finding collaborators. For funded proposals, I monitor project execution, prepare periodic reports, and disseminate results, ensuring that all milestones and deadlines are met efficiently. I am a proactive scientific researcher, critical thinker, problem solver, responsible, rigorous, communicative, and a team player. I am also highly dedicated to my students and the all projects I am involved in.
