ABOUT ALEXUS MCMILLIAN

No matter what you do, be the best at it.” Those were the words of my dad and I live by that quote. My name is Alexus McMillian and I’m a Year Up trained IT professional. Since I was a child, I’ve loved art. When I was introduced to photoshop, the art and tech world began to merge, and I quickly became hooked to digital art. I did not know how to make a career out of art and love interacting with people, so I became a server and worked my way up to restaurant supervisor. My years spent in the hospitality industry taught me things like teamwork, attention to detail, problem solving and adaptability. When I became a mom, my world changed. I thought back to the words of my dad and knew I could not be the best mom in the situation I was in and that’s why I chose IT. I still wasn’t sure exactly what I wanted to do and IT had many different paths to choose from. I also didn’t know what company I wanted to work for but with IT I could choose from almost any company. I think of tech as the universe, it’s forever expanding and there’s always something new to learn. The tech world looks a lot different today than it did 5 years ago, and I look forward to all the new things I’ll get to learn throughout my career. My goal in life is to break generational curses not only in my family, but in the town I grew up in by providing training and resources. The Boys & Girls Club was a vital part in my childhood and development, I still reference back to experiences I had during my time there. I’d like to open something similar but focus on career training, money management, credit and exposer by taking lots of trips. I enjoy networking and building new connections, email me at A••••••••@icloud.com
